April 2021: Installation of mooring systems in Port Louis

Since the beginning of the month, the team is busy working on a Port project. In collaboration with the Mauritius Ports Authority, Powertrain Solutions and JGH Group, Immersub is busy installing four new mooring systems at harbour entry. The system shall be specifically dedicated for the fishing vessels in quarantine.

A complete set of tests has been carried out, from soil sampling to air lance testing, the whole cable route has been inspected and complete report has been submitted to the customer.

Each mooring system is composed of four blocks of 5 tons each, all of them link with heavy duty chains and shackles. The interesting design of the system aims at spreading the force between the four concrete blocks, rather than pulling on a unique deadweight.

The first step of the operation consisted in towing the huge blocks to the precise GPS coordinates using 5 tons open bottom lifting bags and enclosed bags. The blocks were then sunk and aligned correctly by the dive team. Once correctly installed, the chains and shackles were installed and secured with a securing plate. The challenge was completed smoothly in 3 weeks, a success for the team!
