NOVEMBER 2018: TYRE FENDER STUCK IN PROPELLER AND SHAFT

One of Immersub close client reported a major obstruction in the propeller of one of its vessel: an anchor handling tug (LOA 50m x 16m), fitted with a twin pitch propeller. The divers of Immersub attended the AHT very quickly and the underwater inspection revealed that a huge truck fender was stuck in the Starboard side propeller. The fender was completely crushed and entangled in the propeller and shaft.

Given the sensitive area (propeller and stern tube), Brocco cutting torch was not the best option to remove the entanglement. The dive supervisor recommended to remove the fender manually, in order to minimize damage to the area, specifically to the stern tube and the propeller rope guard.
The full diving team of Immersub was deployed to the site and after 4 full days of operation and with the great collaboration of the crew, the fender was removed and the tug was free to resume its operation.
